For those planning a visit this our guide to the local area with some top tips to make the most out of your visit.

There is an endless amount of things for you to do within close proximity of the Sun Hotel. Whether you like walking, fishing, cycling or just a day out with the family. We are located in between Windermere and Ambleside and both can be accessed by just a short drive. Walk down to Bowness-on-Windermere, take yourself on one of the many Lake Cruises to Ambleside or Lakeside. You could also take the Windermere ferry across the Lake and visit Esthwaite Water, Hawkshead or the vast Grizedale Forest.

If you’re looking for a family day out you can go to the Beatrix Potter Museum or visit the house of Beatrix Potter herself. Located only 5 minutes down the road we also have Brockholes, a national park visitors centre with a large adventure playground and acres of garden to explore.

There are endless walking trails near The Sun Inn. Whether you want a leisurely stroll or something a little more challenging. Grizedale Forest alone has 8 fantastic walking routes for all of the family. If you’re looking to conquer something more challenging, head down into Ambleside which is no more than a 10 minute drive away. You will have Scafell Pike and Hellvellyn to enjoy. These peaks offer different walk intensities.

Windermere is a large lake in Cumbria's Lake District National Park, northwest England and is surrounded by mountain peaks and villages. We’re perfectly situated if you plan on spending a day on the lake. Just 20 minutes walk from Lake Windermere, you can have a leisurely stroll in the sunshine and enjoy one of the many lake cruises available. You can also hire your own boats so you can explore the lake at your own pace.

Fancy a day out for the children? Take the ferry over to Go Ape in Grizedale Forest. You can also hop on a Forest Segway if you want to see the very best of the Lake District, with breath-taking views of Coniston Lake and mountains.
